{"id":135853,"date":"2024-10-27T21:53:42","date_gmt":"2024-10-27T20:53:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/tinubu-bought-refurbished-jet-presidency"},"modified":"2024-10-27T22:56:25","modified_gmt":"2024-10-27T21:56:25","slug":"tinubu-bought-refurbished-jet-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/tinubu-bought-refurbished-jet-presidency","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu bought refurbished jet \u2013 Presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Presidency on Sunday said President Bola Tinubu acquired a refurbished official jet.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu\u2019s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, issued the explanation when he was featured on Channels Television\u2019s programme, Inside Sources, anchored by Laolu Akande.<\/p>\n<p>Onanuga said some jets in the presidential fleet, like a 19-year-old Boeing B737-700 purchased under ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, are all in bad condition, and their maintenance costs were outrageous.<\/p>\n<p>Hence, instead of spending a bogus amount of money on aircraft maintenance, the President sought the approval of the National Assembly for a refurbished jet still in good condition.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that the new presidential jet belongs to Nigeria because Tinubu won\u2019t take it along after leaving office.<\/p>\n<p>Onanuga said: \u201cThe president did not buy a new jet; what he has is a refurbished jet\u2014it has been used by somebody else before he got it but it is a much newer model than the one President Buhari used. The one President Buhari used was bought by President Obasanjo some 20 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a time the President went to Saudi Arabia, that plane developed some problems and the President had to leave with a chartered jet to The Netherlands.
