{"id":137498,"date":"2024-11-08T12:43:58","date_gmt":"2024-11-08T11:43:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/alex-ikwechegh-lawyers-withdraw-from-representing-abuja-bolt-driver-abuwatseya"},"modified":"2024-11-08T13:46:33","modified_gmt":"2024-11-08T12:46:33","slug":"alex-ikwechegh-lawyers-withdraw-from-representing-abuja-bolt-driver-abuwatseya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/alex-ikwechegh-lawyers-withdraw-from-representing-abuja-bolt-driver-abuwatseya","title":{"rendered":"Alex Ikwechegh: Lawyers withdraw from representing Abuja Bolt driver, Abuwatseya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Lawyers of Stephen Abuwatseye, the Abuja Bolt driver, who was assaulted by a House of Representative member from Abia State, Alex Ikwechegh, have withdrawn their legal representation.<\/p>\n<p>Deji Adeyanju and Partners said they withdrew their legal representation of Abuwatseya to protect its professional integrity and maintain the highest ethical standard in the legal profession.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, Abuwatseya was assaulted by the House of Representatives member representing Aba North\/South of Abia State while delivering a food item.<\/p>\n<p>The incident happened at the lawmaker\u2019s residence in Maitama area of Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Following the incident, the lawmaker was arraigned at a Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja where he was later granted bail.<\/p>\n<p>But on Thursday, Abuwatseya had apologized to Ikwechegh while calling for unity among Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting, a statement by the law firm signed by Zainab Ortega reads: \u201cWe wish to formally announce the withdrawal of our legal representation in the case involving the alleged assault of Mr. Stephen Abuwatseye.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn October 28, 2024, Mr. Stephen Abuwatseye walked into our law firm, visibly distressed, and sought redress over an alleged assault.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing his complaint, and having verified his claim, we took steps to protect Mr. Stephen Abuwatseye\u2019s rights, on pro bono basis, culminating in the arraignment of the alleged assaulter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, in view of recent developments and after careful consideration, we have made the decision to withdraw our legal representation in other to protect our professional integrity and maintain the highest ethical standard in the legal profession.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wish Mr. Stephen Abuwatseye the very best, while we assure the general public of our continuous commitment towards protecting the rights of the oppressed and indigent members of the society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About Nigeria Follow Africa-Press<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
