Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The provost of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Isu, Ebonyi State, Professor Okey Reuben Okechukwu, has stressed the need for reforms in technical education with focus on intensive training of teachers on Information and Communication Technology, ICT.<\/p>\n

Okechukwu, represented by the co-ordinating dean of the college, Dr (Mrs) Maduagwu Ukamaka, made the assertion while delivering an address on the occasion of the National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE, conference, held at the institution at the weekend.<\/p>\n

The conference was themed \u201cCapacity Building of 650 Teachers Educators on the Use of ICT for Teaching and Learning\u201d (E-Learning).<\/p>\n

According to Maduagwu Ukamaka: \u201cWe have come to educate the staff on capacity building of 650 teachers on the use of ICT for teaching and learning. ICT plays a vital role in enhancing the teaching and learning experiences. The training will move the entire college community to higher level.\u201d<\/p>\n

The provost commended former President Muhammadu Buhari, who gave a boost to Nigeria teachers\u2019 education by establishing more colleges of education in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative was aimed at producing professionally qualified, groomed and trained teachers that will compete with the global world.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thank NCCE and UBEC for the love extended to our college. We promise to put into practice all knowledge impacted to us during the training, I urge all participants to cooperate with them and enjoy this training as expected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Earlier in a remark, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education, NCCE, Professor Paulinus Chijoke Okwelle, represented by the Finance and Accounts director, Mr Ukoh I. Ukoh, said that the training was aimed at equipping teachers and educators with the tools necessary for education to strive.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe programme is being extended to 13 more colleges of education and 50 more academic staff will partake in the exercise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe expansion underscores the unwavering commitment of NCCE towards equipping teachers and educators nationwide,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In attendance during the conference were the acting Registrar, Mrs. Ekezie Ifeanyinwa; Bursar Offor Nwode Ojeh; Librarian Lawal Shauibu; and directors of the institution.<\/p>\n

Others include representatives from National Commission for Colleges of Education , Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), RAADAR officials and staff of the college among others.<\/p>\n

The Federal College of Education (Technical Isu), was among the six Federal Colleges of Education established in May, 2020 by the administration of former President Muhammed Buhari.<\/p>\n

The college has four deans handling different schools which include School of Education and General Studies with five departments, School of Secondary Education (Sciences) with six departments, and School of Secondary Education (Vocational) with four departments.<\/p>\n
