Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>President Bola Tinubu has approved the dissolution of the Governing Council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, and the removal of Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh, the institution\u2019s new Vice Chancellor.<\/p>\n

Tinubu also approved the removal of Mrs Rosemary Ifoema Nwokike, Nnamdi Azikiwe University registrar.<\/p>\n

The Council, led by Ambassador Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe, includes five other members: Hafiz Oladejo, Augustine Onyedebelu, and Engr. Amioleran Osahon, and Rtd. Gen. Funsho Oyeneyin.<\/p>\n

A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu\u2019s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, said the sacking of the Governing Council and officials followed reports that the Council illegally appointed an unqualified vice-chancellor without following due process.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter the controversial appointment, the Federal Government stepped in to address tensions between the university\u2019s Senate and the Governing Council of the 23-year-old institution,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

Tinubu expressed concern over the Council\u2019s apparent disregard for the university\u2019s governing laws in its selection process.<\/p>\n

The President also approved the removal of Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami as the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State.<\/p>\n

The decision followed Salami\u2019s illegal actions, including suspending the vice-chancellor without following the prescribed procedures.<\/p>\n

The statement said: \u201cDespite the Federal Ministry of Education\u2019s call for the unlawful suspension to be revoked, Engr. Salami refused to comply.<\/p>\n

\u201cInstead, he resorted to abusive and threatening behaviour towards the Ministry\u2019s Directors, including the Permanent Secretary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tinubu further warned the councils not to create distractions in their universities as his government is focused on improving the country\u2019s education standards.<\/p>\n
