{"id":140032,"date":"2024-11-24T08:32:08","date_gmt":"2024-11-24T07:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/minimum-wage-december-1-deadline-stands-nlc"},"modified":"2024-11-24T09:35:47","modified_gmt":"2024-11-24T08:35:47","slug":"minimum-wage-december-1-deadline-stands-nlc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/minimum-wage-december-1-deadline-stands-nlc","title":{"rendered":"Minimum wage: December 1 deadline stands \u2013 NLC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has reiterated that its December 1 deadline for all states to implement the new minimum wage still stands.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST recalls that on July 29, 2024, President Bola Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill into law.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation increased the country\u2019s minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.<\/p>\n<p>Also on November 11, NLC announced November 30 as the deadline for all state governments to implement the new minimum wage for their workers.<\/p>\n<p>The union mandated its members to embark on an indefinite strike in states where the new minimum wage is yet to be implemented after the deadline.<\/p>\n<p>However, several states have signed the new minimum wage scheme into effect, with over 30 governors agreeing to set the lowest monthly salary for workers at N70,000 and above.<\/p>\n<p>Zamfara, Sokoto, Cross Rivers, and Nasarawa, among others, have yet to reach an agreement on improved payment for their workers.<\/p>\n<p>NLC spokesman, Benson Upah, while speaking on the deadline, said nothing has changed as per the directive despite the majority of the states implementing the new minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMajority is not everybody.
