Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>In order to eradicate corruption in the nation and achieve effective leadership, former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has said the fight must first begin from the leaders.<\/p>\n

Obasanjo added that the fight must also be consistent and continual to achieve its purpose.<\/p>\n

He spoke on Sunday night during an interactive session on Zoom tagged \u201cBoiling Point Arena.\u201d<\/p>\n

The discussion, which was broadcast by some private radio stations in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, centred on Obasanjo\u2019s political legacies and his evaluation of modern-day Nigeria.<\/p>\n

While characterizing corruption as a pervasive problem that has engulfed Nigerian society, Obasanjo accused those in power of being at fault.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cCorruption is very hydra-headed and eats deep. I think it was the Sultan of Sokoto, the father of the present Sultan who said corruption is like a babariga, if you are folding it on one side, it\u2019s falling apart on the other side.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you carry it on both sides, you cannot hold your hands up and as soon as you put your hands down, it\u2019s falling apart. And that\u2019s corruption.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not a one day affair. It\u2019s not a one regime affair. It\u2019s not even a two regime affair. It has to be consistent. it has to be continual. It has to be a daily affair. Once one regime is let off, it spreads,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
