{"id":142166,"date":"2024-12-12T22:14:41","date_gmt":"2024-12-12T21:14:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/breaking-senate-issues-warrant-of-arrest-against-julius-berger-for-snubbing-invitations"},"modified":"2024-12-12T23:21:45","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T22:21:45","slug":"breaking-senate-issues-warrant-of-arrest-against-julius-berger-for-snubbing-invitations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/breaking-senate-issues-warrant-of-arrest-against-julius-berger-for-snubbing-invitations","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: Senate issues warrant of arrest against Julius Berger for snubbing invitations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigerian Senate has issued a warrant of arrest against the management of construction company, Julius Berger, for snubbing its invitation on several occasions.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate\u2019s resolution on Thursday followed a motion raised by Senator Osita Ngwu, representing Enugu West, expressing concern over Julius Berger\u2019s repeated failure to appear before the Senate Committee on Works.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker noted that Julius Berger has many failed contracts littered all over the country, stressing that there was need to investigation the development.<\/p>\n<p>However, according to him, the company is taking the Senate for granted.<\/p>\n<p>Making reference to the power of Senate to summon anyone before its investigative committee, Ngwu said: \u201cIf a committee summons any person or entity to come for a committee hearing and that entity does not send a representative or do not appear in any way, the normal thing is to report to the presiding officer and then warrants will be issued.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The lawmaker urged the Senate President to compel Julius Berger to appear for investigation.<\/p>\n<p>His position was supported by Senator Abdul Ningi representing Bauchi Central, who pointed out that the Senate President is empowered by the Constitution and the Senate Rules to order the appearance of anyone through a warrant of arrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe committees, of course, derive their powers on the same standard rules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Constitution gives the National Assembly such powers.
