Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Bauchi State Government has approved the recruitment of 3,000 teachers to address the teacher-student ratio gap in Junior and Senior Secondary Schools across the state.<\/p>\n

The Project Coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, AGILE, Malam Ali Gar, disclosed this during a sensitization meeting on the Girls Scholarship Programme with stakeholders in Bauchi Local Government on Thursday.<\/p>\n

He stated that 2,000 teachers would be deployed to Junior Secondary Schools, while 1,000 would serve in Senior Secondary Schools.<\/p>\n

According to him, the recruitment is a critical step in fulfilling conditions for implementing the AGILE project in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe teachers will be on the state government\u2019s payroll, not the AGILE project. They will be recruited from benefiting communities to ensure maximum participation, ease monitoring, and enhance ownership,\u201d Gar explained.<\/p>\n

In addition to the teachers\u2019 recruitment, the AGILE project will commence Conditional Cash Transfers for 9,000 selected beneficiaries within two weeks.<\/p>\n

The Project Coordinator further stated that the scheme provides N15,000 as a registration fee and N20,000 as a stipend for the first term, adding that beneficiaries will receive N10,000 for the second and third terms, provided they achieve at least 75% attendance.<\/p>\n

Gar mentioned that ICT facilities and skills acquisition tools have already been procured for the project. However, only 9,000 out of the targeted 20,250 beneficiaries have been registered within ten weeks.<\/p>\n

He urged stakeholders to monitor school activities to ensure teachers fulfill their responsibilities effectively.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Mahmood Babama\u2019aji, lauded the AGILE team for its efforts and expressed confidence in the School-Based Management Committees\u2019 ability to deliver on their mandate.<\/p>\n
