{"id":146964,"date":"2025-01-20T15:44:34","date_gmt":"2025-01-20T14:44:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/tinubus-reforms-have-impacted-pensioners-parliamentary-support-group"},"modified":"2025-01-29T23:11:06","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T22:11:06","slug":"tinubus-reforms-have-impacted-pensioners-parliamentary-support-group","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/tinubus-reforms-have-impacted-pensioners-parliamentary-support-group","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu\u2019s reforms have impacted pensioners \u2013 Parliamentary Support Group"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A civil society organization, the Parliamentary Support Group, PSG, has said that President Bola Tinubu\u2019s reforms in the pension system has had a positive impact on Nigerian pensioners.<\/p>\n<p>PSG made the assertion while commenting on the 2025 budget defence session of the Executive Secretary of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD, Ms Tolulope Odunaiya.<\/p>\n<p>Odunaiya had while presenting PTAD\u2019s 2025 budget at the joint sitting of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service and the House of Representatives Committee on Pension, disclosed that the agency has resolved and paid N1.75 billion to 902 beneficiaries under its ongoing Next-of-Kin, NoK, and gratuity project.<\/p>\n<p>Odunaiya also disclosed that, as a result of measures put in place by the President, there had been timely payments of monthly pension and inherited unfunded liabilities.<\/p>\n<p>Commending Odunaiya for her leadership and achievements since assuming office in November 2023, the PSG noted that PTAD demonstrated transparency and accountability during the budget defence session at the National Assembly in line with Tinubu\u2019s vision for pension reform.<\/p>\n<p>In the statement signed by its President, Comrade Charles Abakpa, the PSG noted that Tinubu\u2019s reforms have positively impacted pensioners, leading to timely payment of entitlements, as well as the clearance of arrears.<\/p>\n<p>PSG equally highlighted efforts to streamline pension payment processes, resulting in significant reductions in payment timelines and improved satisfaction among pensioners.<\/p>\n<p>The Parliamentary Support Group equally commended the commitment to combating pension fraud and ensuring the integrity of the pension system, adding that Odunaiya\u2019s strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders have enhanced PTAD\u2019s capacity to deliver efficient services to pensioners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder her stewardship, PTAD has consistently made timely payments of monthly pensions and inherited unfunded liabilities, demonstrating her commitment to the welfare of pensioners,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>It added that innovative initiatives, such as the \u2018I Am Alive\u2019 confirmation program ensures the integrity of PTAD\u2019s database at minimal cost.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis program has been instrumental in ascertaining pensioners\u2019 aliveness, preventing fraudulent activities, and promoting transparency,\u201d the statement said, adding that PTAD has commenced the payment of arrears to some batches of pensioners, in line with approval from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Other innovations highlighted by PSG include the alleviation of challenges faced by retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme, DBS, as well as the 20 percent pension increase for DBS pensioners, backdated to January 2024, which has brought relief to many beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis increase is particularly noteworthy as it marks the first time such an increase has been paid to pensioners without protests,\u201d the statement said, adding that a minimum pension of N32,000, approved in July 2024, has also positively impacted several beneficiaries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese initiatives reflect President Tinubu\u2019s love and commitment to ensuring pensioners in the country are supported and their rights protected and promoted,\u201d the Parliamentary Support Group added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
