Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Kebbi State Government has begun preparations for a mass wedding involving 300 couples, scheduled to take place on February 27. The initiative aims to support less privileged individuals in fulfilling their marriage aspirations, in line with Governor Nasir Idris\u2019 promise to facilitate such events periodically.<\/p>\n

As part of the sponsorship, the state government will provide each bride with a dowry of \u20a6180,000. Additionally, the couples will receive essential household items, including room furniture and food supplies, to help them start their married lives.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, confirmed the plans while speaking to journalists. He revealed that the event is being arranged in collaboration with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS), a non-governmental organization.<\/p>\n

To ensure compliance with health and religious standards, various committees have been established to conduct pregnancy tests, genotype tests, HIV\/AIDS screenings, and other necessary marital prerequisites.<\/p>\n

Argungu emphasized that the wedding ceremonies will be conducted in consultation with Islamic scholars and will adhere to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to supporting underprivileged citizens in achieving their marital aspirations.<\/p>\n

The mass wedding, which includes participants from all 21 Local Government Areas of the state, follows a previous similar initiative and is expected to provide social and economic benefits to the beneficiaries.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Kebbi State has also witnessed recent security concerns. Two police officers lost their lives in a gun battle with the notorious Lakurawa bandits, who attacked a village, looted farms, and targeted Fulani settlements. Authorities continue to work on strategies to enhance security and protect local communities.<\/p>\n
