I then contested for local government chairman, and God granted us victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2019, I would have run for Senate but those of us from the Plateau central zone were legislated out of the race. That was a frustrating moment, but I understood that it wasn\u2019t my time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the opportunity to run for governor came in 2023, I asked myself a serious question; Is this just ambition, or is it a platform to contribute meaningfully to humanity?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI became convinced that God was giving us a chance to create positive change. I reflected on history and how Nehemiah left a foreign land to rebuild the broken walls of Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, looking at our state, I asked; Why should we be, in one of Nigeria\u2019s most blessed lands, and remain poor?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy do we suffer from insurgency when our forefathers stood firm?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy has the standard of our public education declined when our students once excelled nationally?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have often said, unless we revive our public schools to the highest standards, we have failed\u201d, he maintained.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cPrivate schools must not be the yardstick for quality education. Similarly, if our public healthcare system is not strengthened, we have also failed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen, I discovered something disturbing. Some nations achieve ten tons per hectare in agriculture, while Nigeria\u2019s national average is barely two to four tons per hectare. Why?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI visited a cattle farm where imported cows had dwindled from hundreds to just 25. Meanwhile, in France, cows of the same breed were producing 20 to 25 litres of milk daily, while ours barely managed two litres. Again, why?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt became clear the time to act is now. God will not send angels to fix our problems. We must rise and trust Him to make us solution providers\u201d, Mutfwang admonished.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have seen former governors and National Assembly members now living in poverty. Many past commissioners and local government chairmen can barely feed themselves. Must we continue like this?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember growing up in the village, washing utensils in a stream because running water was a luxury. But times have changed. Our GDP has improved, our purchasing power has grown, yet we still operate far below our potential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGod\u2019s help is available, but we must recognize the season and act. Seasons don\u2019t last forever. If we don\u2019t seize opportunities in their time, they pass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI pray this window of opportunity does not close on us. We must be radical in our commitment to governance and work as if this is our last chance. No postponements. No slumber. No selfishness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProgress is built on unity, no one can do it alone. The era of working in silos, creating personal power bases, is over. This is the time to join hands and move forward together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo every official in government whether a commissioner, permanent secretary, or director don\u2019t assume you have time. Even if you are posted somewhere for just three months, make a difference. Your position is a trust given to you.<\/p>\n<p>The governor further noted that, \u201cYes, loyalty to me as a leader is good, but your ultimate loyalty should be to God, to whom we will all give account. That means working with integrity, without needing supervision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur people are suffering, and they have entrusted us to improve their lives. May we not fail them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo when we say, \u2018The time is now\u2019, understand that we truly cannot afford to wait. Wherever you serve, rise to the occasion. S<\/p>\n<p>stretch yourself, push yourself, because the people are counting on us\u201d, Mutfwang stressed.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, the Commissioner of Information and Communication in the state, Joyce Ramnap, said, \u201cThe impact of this retreat will, to no small extent, help chart a direction for the state and its people.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, \u201cIt is an opportunity for us to engage in critical thinking and reflection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a vast combination of resource persons at this retreat.
