Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Inegbeboh Ojie Eugene, a lawmaker representing Igueben constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly has urged Police and the State Security Corps, ESSC, not to claim glory for the release of His Royal Highness, Friday Ehizojie, the traditional ruler of Udo-Eguare kingdom in Igueben Local Government Area from his abductors.<\/p>\n

The traditional ruler was kidnapped by gunmen on Sunday, Friday 3, 2025 with five others while riding as a passenger on a motorcycle along a lonely path leading to the community and regained freedom on Friday, January 7, 2025.<\/p>\n

The Edo State Police Command who disclosed that the monarch was rescued unhurt by operatives of the command, also appreciated vigilantes, hunters and other well-meaning residents of the State for the support.<\/p>\n

The image maker of the command, Moses Yamu in a statement said the traditional ruler was rescued after four days in captivity.<\/p>\n

However, barely two days after the police statement, the Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, ESSC, Mr Friday Ibadin also claimed that the traditional ruler was rescued by the operatives of the Corps.<\/p>\n

Ibadin, a retired Commissioner of Police said after his officers successfully combed the forest which led to the rescue of the Onogie, he was, however, handed over to the Nigeria police Force Edo State Command for adequate debriefing in order to be able to apprehend his captors who are at large.<\/p>\n

As the Edo State Police Command and the operatives of ESSC, continued to claim glory for the successful release of the monarch, a lawmaker, Eugene, and a member of Udo-Eguare community, debunked the claims of the duo saying that the community paid ransom for the release of their king.<\/p>\n

Eugene, while speaking on personal explanation at the floor of the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday alleged that the traditional ruler was kidnapped by Fulani Herdsmen.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Speaker, it is interesting to know that during the trying period, I personally informed the security agencies of the kidnapping of the traditional ruler. The information was for them to see what they could do but at the end of the day, I want to tell you that the security agencies that I informed were playing hid and seek as if they are doing something but doing nothing.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the end of the day none of them knew how the traditional ruler came back home, but only for them to come out now and start claiming the glory and taking pictures with him after his released. Some, people, even went to the social media to claim that they are the one that rescued him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do you rescue a person from kidnappers\u2019 den without the culprit being apprehended? Did they just walk in there to bring the traditional ruler home? If they know the kidnappers they should show us.<\/p>\n

\u201cMr Speaker, I make bold to say that even though they would not want to agree, it took the grace of God for my people \u201cSmall big\u201d village to raise the ransom that brought our king back home.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, Mr Speaker, nobody should claim that glory that they rescued him. It is wrong,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Peoples Democratic Party, lawmaker, who commended his colleagues for their sympathy during the trying period, however, urged the Speaker to invite the new Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, Friday Ibadin to brief the house on steps the outfit is taking to address the security challenges in the state.<\/p>\n

He also thanked Governor Monday Okpebholo for the swift response and logistics support for security agencies during the period.<\/p>\n

The lawmaker opined that in spite of the several resolutions taken by the House as regards kidnapping, the effect of the resolutions are not felt by the people of the state.<\/p>\n
