Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Imo State Police Command has responded to information circulating that some Fulani herdsmen are planning to attack Irete community in Owerri West LGA, Imo State. The rumour follows a letter allegedly written by herdsmen and posted at the entrance of the community.<\/p>\n

The command\u2019s Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed that the letter, found in Umuoba Community, Irete, Owerri West LGA, had the message: \u201cFULANI HERDSMEN, WE ARE COMING. WAIT FOR US AT ANY TIME, AT ANY MOMENT NOW. WAIT FOR US.\u201d<\/p>\n

He stated that preliminary investigations suggest the message is a calculated attempt by certain individuals to incite unnecessary fear and panic among the public and destabilise the peace and security currently enjoyed in the state.<\/p>\n

Okoye added that, to prevent any breakdown of law and order, the command has launched a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for spreading the threat and to determine their motives.<\/p>\n

He assured residents that the police are committed to ensuring public safety and that any attempt to undermine security will be met with swift and decisive action.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, wishes to reassure the public\u2014especially the residents of Irete\u2014that there is no cause for alarm. Additionally, the Divisional Police Officer, together with local vigilantes, has visited the community to assess the situation and engage with residents, further reinforcing our proactive measures to ensure their safety,\u201d the statement partly read.<\/p>\n

The command spokesperson encouraged citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear, assuring them that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes, are working to safeguard the state.<\/p>\n

He also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or called either of 08034773600 or 08148024755.<\/p>\n
