{"id":150118,"date":"2025-02-12T17:54:54","date_gmt":"2025-02-12T16:54:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/akwa-ibom-lawmaker-decries-illegal-motor-parks-in-uyo-seeks-revamp-of-transport-sector"},"modified":"2025-02-15T23:56:14","modified_gmt":"2025-02-15T22:56:14","slug":"akwa-ibom-lawmaker-decries-illegal-motor-parks-in-uyo-seeks-revamp-of-transport-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/akwa-ibom-lawmaker-decries-illegal-motor-parks-in-uyo-seeks-revamp-of-transport-sector","title":{"rendered":"Akwa Ibom lawmaker decries illegal motor parks in Uyo, seeks revamp of transport sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency in the 8th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Otobong Bob has expressed worry over the rising number of illegal motor parks in Uyo metropolis.<\/p>\n<p>He said the illegal motor parks contribute to traffic congestion, dis-orderliness, and unsafe conditions on major roads and public space in the state.<\/p>\n<p>In a motion titled, \u201cUrgent motion on curbing illegal motor parks and revamping government owned parks in Uyo metropolis\u201d at plenary, Bob who is also the Deputy leader of the House observed that Government-owned motor parks in Uyo metropolis are either underutilized or in deplorable conditions adding that a well-organized transportation system should be established for economic growth, public convenience, and the overall development of Akwa Ibom State.<\/p>\n<p>The House which adopted all the prayers of the motion called on the Akwa Ibom State Government to prioritize the renovation and modernization of government-owned motor parks in Uyo metropolis, equipping them with modern facilities and technology.<\/p>\n<p>It also called on the state government to mandate relevant agencies, including the Ministry of Transportation and the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), to enforce existing laws against illegal motor parks and ensure their immediate closure.<\/p>\n<p>The House called for partnerships between government and private sector in managing and maintaining motor parks for sustainability and improved service delivery.<\/p>\n<p>However, The Speaker, Udeme Otong directed the clerk of the house NsikakAbasi Orok to communicate the House resolutions to the Governor.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Bob provided the general principles on the amended public and political office holders remuneration law, cap. 117 Laws of Akwa Ibom State 2022, stating that the executive bill sent to the Assembly by the Governor seeks to accommodate that class of public servants in the new minimum wage structure.<\/p>\n<p>The bill which received accelerated hearing due to its prominence and expediency was passed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
