{"id":150238,"date":"2025-02-13T15:38:04","date_gmt":"2025-02-13T14:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/senate-urges-fg-to-include-north-east-in-n4-2trn-super-highway-projects"},"modified":"2025-02-16T00:21:47","modified_gmt":"2025-02-15T23:21:47","slug":"senate-urges-fg-to-include-north-east-in-n4-2trn-super-highway-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/senate-urges-fg-to-include-north-east-in-n4-2trn-super-highway-projects","title":{"rendered":"Senate urges FG to include North-East in N4.2trn super highway projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Nigerian Senate has urged President Bola Tinubu to include raids in the North-East in the N4.2 trillion superhighway for the well-being of the people of the zone.<\/p>\n<p>The call followed a motion sponsored by Senator Mohammed Danjuma Goje representing Gombe Central Senatorial District on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The motion was titled, \u2018Federal Government\u2019s Approval of N4.2trillion for Construction of Lagos \u2013 Calabar Coastal Road and Other Road Projects Nationwide\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is imperative to note that in this laudable project, the North \u2013 East has only two projects, that is, Yola \u2013 Fufore \u2013 Gurin Road in Adamawa State (N11.81 Billion); and Lamido Road in Taraba State (N7.68 Billion), out of the approved sum of N4.2 Trillion Naira.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cApart from these two road projects in the North \u2013 East, there are other very important road networks, which are in bad conditions, such as: the Bauchi \u2013 Gombe road; Biu \u2013 Gombe road; Potiskum \u2013 Gombe road; Darazo \u2013 Gombe road; Numan \u2013 Jalingo road; Yola \u2013 Mubi road; Yola \u2013 Michika \u2013 Madagali \u2013 Gwoza \u2013 Bama road, Ngorore \u2013 Mayo Belwa \u2013 Zing \u2013 Jalingo; Mayo Belwa \u2013 Jada \u2013 Ganye; Biu \u2013 Gombi \u2013 Maranraba; Biu \u2013 Damboa \u2013 Maiduguri; and Biu \u2013 Damaturu, among others, which desperately require serious reconstruction and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe North \u2013 East is the only Zone that is not connected to the SUPER HIGHWAY PROJECT, embarked upon by this administration,\u201d Goje said.<\/p>\n<p>He however commended President Tinubu for the Super Highway projects which according to him, are to ensure connectivity by improving road safety with the aim of harnessing the viability of resources that abound across the length and breadth of this country.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate amended Goje\u2019s second prayer from urging the Federal Government to, as a matter of necessity, approve the rehabilitation of the listed deplorable roads in the North \u2013 East to urging the Federal Government to as a matter of necessity, approve the rehabilitation of all deplorable roads across the country.<\/p>\n<p>In contributions to debate on the motion, many of the senators who spoke, commended Goje for the motion but also listed a series of federal roads in their various constituencies begging for urgent attention in terms of rehabilitation and even re-construction.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Solomon Adeola representing Ogun West, in his contribution, however clarified that allocation for the N4.2 trillion Coastal road projects was not done on zonal basis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe N4.2 trillion coastal road projects strictly covers the Badagary \u2013 Sokoto and Lagos \u2013 Calabar Coastal roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the existing road projects across the country , Mr President has set aside N500billon for continued rehabilitation work without exclusion of any zone\u201d, he said<\/p>\n<p>The President of the Senate, Goodwill Akpabio, in his remarks, said until Nigeria has a serious road map for constant rehabilitation and maintenance of roads across the country, the issue of road deplorability in the country will remain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
