Moreover, the exchange rate is stabilizing, with the naira gaining relative strength against the dollar,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n<p>Zakari linked the sustained high sugar prices to the removal of fuel subsidies and the implementation of a new exchange rate policy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>However, he argued that with the exchange rate now stabilizing, sugar prices should have dropped accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not pleased with the current price situation. There is no justification for sugar to remain this expensive,\u201d he said, emphasizing that while the prices of other goods have started to decline, sugar remains costly. He urged producers to take corrective measures, especially with Ramadan approaching.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, therefore, call on sugar manufacturers to reduce prices for the benefit of consumers, particularly as Ramadan draws near,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Zakari acknowledged the Federal Government\u2019s role in lowering the cost of essential goods through importation waivers on items such as rice, pasta, and noodles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe commend the Federal Government for granting these waivers, which have significantly reduced prices in the market. People are relieved that costs have gone down and hope this policy continues,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>He further urged the government to foster competition by encouraging the establishment of more food processing companies. Expanding local production of essential foodstuffs, he said, would contribute to lower market prices.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, he called for increased support for agriculture, including the provision of improved seeds to boost harvests and enhance food security.<\/p>\n<p>Zakari also stressed the importance of sustaining security improvements to enable farmers to cultivate their land without fear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognize that security has improved, but we urge the government to intensify efforts to further enhance safety,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>SIMDA reiterated its appreciation of the government\u2019s initiatives in stabilizing food prices and called for continued interventions to support affordability for consumers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
