{"id":151268,"date":"2025-02-18T15:05:37","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T14:05:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/edo-lawmakers-approves-death-sentence-for-kidnappers"},"modified":"2025-02-20T22:33:21","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T21:33:21","slug":"edo-lawmakers-approves-death-sentence-for-kidnappers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/edo-lawmakers-approves-death-sentence-for-kidnappers","title":{"rendered":"Edo lawmakers approves death sentence for kidnappers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Edo State House of Assembly on Tuesday approved death sentence for kidnappers in the state.<\/p>\n<p>The death sentence followed the amendment of the 2013, the Edo State kidnapping prohibition law which had provided for life imprisonment and confiscation of property allegedly used for kidnapping.<\/p>\n<p>The House passed the death sentence during the amendment of the State Kidnapping prohibition law 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The majority leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian moved the motion for the amendment during plenary and seconded by the minority leader of the House, Eric Okaka, APC, representing Owan East constituency.<\/p>\n<p>During the clause by clause consideration of the bill, the lawmakers amended the existing law 2013, which had provided for life imprisonment and confiscation of property allegedly used for kidnapping<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers, however, amended the law to provide a stiffer penalty of death sentence and confiscation of property used in the act.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the House passed a bill for a law to repeal the Edo State electricity law 2022, establish Edo State electricity market, Edo State electricity regulatory commission and Edo electrification agency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
