Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>In a bid to empower women and local farmers in Katsina State, Governor Dikko Radda has announced a N5.7 billion investment in goat rearing. He also expressed his commitment to making the state a major player in livestock production shortly.<\/p>\n

The announcement was made on Monday during the distribution of 40,000 goats as part of the state\u2019s goat-rearing initiative. Each of the 361 wards in the Daura Local Government Area received 10 goats, which will be given to women.<\/p>\n

Kano came under intense criticism recently when the state distributed goats to women for empowerment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a significant milestone in our agricultural journey and a transformative step toward realizing our vision of making Katsina State a leading hub for livestock production, both in northern Nigeria and across the nation,\u201d Governor Radda said.<\/p>\n

The Goat Rearing Initiative, which is funded with N5.7 billion, is aimed at empowering local farmers, particularly women, by providing them with the resources, training, and support they need to successfully rear goats. The initiative will involve training programs that will cover essential topics such as animal nutrition, health management, and sustainable farming practices.<\/p>\n

Governor Radda also revealed plans to establish a goat farm in Rimi Local Government, located in the Katsina senatorial zone, to focus on genetic improvement, high milk yield, and manure production. This farm will serve as a center for breeding, animal husbandry, and training.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday marks a significant step in propelling our state to the forefront of livestock production. This initiative will not only boost the economic landscape of our state but also improve the livelihoods of our communities,\u201d Radda added.<\/p>\n

The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.<\/p>\n

Yusuf Sulaiman, the Special Adviser on Livestock and Grazing Reserves to the governor, emphasized the importance of women\u2019s involvement in driving economic progress and societal development. \u201cBy providing them with the necessary resources and support, we are confident they will thrive and become agents of positive change in their communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In addition, the state government will set up three livestock centers where the distributed goats will be treated and vaccinated to ensure their health and well-being.<\/p>\n

The Emir of Daura, Faruk Faruk, commended Governor Radda for his leadership and commitment to economic development. He noted that Katsina State has made significant progress under the governor\u2019s leadership, moving from hardship to a path of prosperity in less than two years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe initiative to provide women with livestock is an act of charity that will have a lasting impact. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that women, orphans, and children receive the support they need, including access to education and economic empowerment,\u201d the Emir said.<\/p>\n

Under the initiative, each woman in the beneficiary group will receive four goats\u2014one male and three females\u2014while large-scale farmers will receive 50 goats. The beneficiaries are expected to repay in kind by returning the same number of animals after a specified period.<\/p>\n
