{"id":151472,"date":"2025-02-19T18:03:55","date_gmt":"2025-02-19T17:03:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/reduction-in-flour-cost-kano-govt-bakers-reach-agreement-on-price-of-bread"},"modified":"2025-02-20T23:24:53","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T22:24:53","slug":"reduction-in-flour-cost-kano-govt-bakers-reach-agreement-on-price-of-bread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/economy\/reduction-in-flour-cost-kano-govt-bakers-reach-agreement-on-price-of-bread","title":{"rendered":"Reduction in flour cost: Kano Govt, bakers reach agreement on price of bread"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission and Master Bakers and Caterers Association of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter, have reached an agreement on the price of bread as a result of reduction in the price of bags of flour.<\/p>\n<p>A communique issued at the end of a meeting between the Commission and the bakers\u2019 association on Wednesday noted that despite the sharp decline in the price of flour, the price of bread remained unreviewed.<\/p>\n<p>In the communique, signed jointly by the chairman of the anti-corruption commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado and chairman and secretary of the bakers\u2019 association, the parties agreed that the only thing to be done is to increase the size and quality of the bread, not its price.<\/p>\n<p>The bakers noted that that apart from flour, there are other key ingredients that are necessary in the making bread, the price of which have not declined, hence they are left with no option than to increase the size of the essential commodity not its price.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCommunique of Meeting between Executive Chairman Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission and Master Bakers and Caterers Association of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter Held on 19th February, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSequel to the numerous complaints from the general public and the outcry on the social media alleging that, despite sharp reduction in the price of bag of flour, there is no corresponding reduction in the price of bread, the Executive Chairman of Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, invited the Kano State executives of the Master Bakers and Caterers Association of Nigeria for a meeting with a view to finding the actual situation of things and resolving the issue in the best interests of the good people of Kano State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe meeting was fruitful and Commission and the Association have agreed on the following resolutions:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe meeting debunked the claim in the public domain that bakers were buying a bag of flour at N90,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat since the intervention of the Kano State government through the Commission last year, the bakers were buying a bag of flour at N60,000. That in recognition of the approach of the holy month of Ramadan, some flour companies compassionately reduced the bag price of flour by N2,000. And this reduction only took effect last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat the meeting notes that, apart from flour, there are other key ingredients that are used necessary in the making bread, the price of which has not declined. These ingredients include sugar, oil, butter, wood etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the meeting appreciates and commends the flour companies for making the discount in their bag prices, but the meeting notes that the N2,000 reduction on flour price, taking cognizance of other ingredients, is not enough to cause a reduction in the price of bread.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, the Association agreed to improve the quality of its bread by increasing its gram to reflect the reduction in the price of flour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Commission will further meet with Singer Market Traders Association to ensure steady supply of flour and compliance with the price reduction made by the companies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Commission and the Association appreciate the good people of Kano State for their understanding,\u201d the communique read.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
