{"id":151536,"date":"2025-02-20T12:13:23","date_gmt":"2025-02-20T11:13:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/theyre-not-kidnappers-lagos-police-condemn-beating-of-three-men-in-viral-video"},"modified":"2025-02-20T23:41:13","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T22:41:13","slug":"theyre-not-kidnappers-lagos-police-condemn-beating-of-three-men-in-viral-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/theyre-not-kidnappers-lagos-police-condemn-beating-of-three-men-in-viral-video","title":{"rendered":"They\u2019re not kidnappers \u2013 Lagos police condemn beating of three men in viral video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed rumours circulating on social media that three men seen in a viral video were kidnappers.<\/p>\n<p>The police made the clarification in a statement issued by the state\u2019s police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A video had gone viral where three men accused of being kidnappers received severe beating.<\/p>\n<p>However, according to the police, there was no kidnapping incident at the Estate, adding that investigations revealed the accusations were false.<\/p>\n<p>The statement read, \u201cIn response to a viral video wherein some yet-to-be-identified persons around Victory Estate, Ago Okota are seen beating and humiliating three young men for being suspected kidnappers, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, Wednesday, February 19, 2025 held a fact-finding meeting with the Chairman, Chief Security Officer, two other residents of Victory Estate and one of the men alleged in the video.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter thorough interview, it has been proven that the three men in the video are not kidnappers and there was no kidnapping incident at the Estate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hundeyin also urged Lagosians to be cautious and verify news items before sharing them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo avoid spreading panic and fear in the minds of the people which can cause a threat to peace or which can lead to loss of life.
