Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>President Bola Tinubu has assented to two separate bills establishing the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji, Osun State, and the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.<\/p>\n

A statement issued on Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, quoted President Tinubu as stating that these specialised institutions would address the educational needs of the populace.<\/p>\n

According to the presidency, both universities will drive research and innovation while contributing to the country\u2019s overall economic growth and development.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese institutions will serve as training grounds for developing professionals in agriculture, science, and technology, thereby enhancing Nigeria\u2019s competitiveness in the global economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cAccording to the National Universities Commission (NUC), Nigeria currently has 63 approved federal universities, 63 state universities, and 149 private universities,\u201d the presidency clarified in the statement.<\/p>\n

On 3 February 2025, President Tinubu also approved the establishment of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, FUET, in Ogoni Town, Tai, Rivers State.<\/p>\n

He likewise authorised the Federal Government\u2019s takeover of a forfeited private university in Southern Kaduna, transforming it into a federal institution.<\/p>\n
