{"id":152065,"date":"2025-02-21T08:55:23","date_gmt":"2025-02-21T07:55:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/jigawa-under-5-mortality-dropped-to-161-per-1000-live-births-unicef"},"modified":"2025-02-22T11:40:59","modified_gmt":"2025-02-22T10:40:59","slug":"jigawa-under-5-mortality-dropped-to-161-per-1000-live-births-unicef","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/jigawa-under-5-mortality-dropped-to-161-per-1000-live-births-unicef","title":{"rendered":"Jigawa: Under-5 mortality dropped to 161 per 1000 live births \u2013 UNICEF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The United Nations Children\u2019s Fund, UNICEF, says Jigawa State has made significant strides in child health, reducing the Under-5 mortality rate from 213 to 161 per 1,000 live births between 2018 and 2023.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed by UNICEF Nigeria\u2019s Chief of Health, Dr. Shyam Sharan Pathak, who represented the UNICEF Country Representative, Ms. Cristian Munduate, at the closeout ceremony of the Jigawa State Government\/Gavi PHC-MoU at the Government House, Dutse.<\/p>\n<p>He said the state recorded significant milestones after the signing of MoU with Gavi since the implementation period- March 2022 to March 2025.<\/p>\n<p>According to reports, the state succeeded in reduction in Under-5 mortality rate from 213 to 161 per 1000 live births between 2018 and 2023, increase in measles vaccination, five-fold increase in Ante-natal Care (ANC) coverage, and four-fold increase in SBA (skilled birth attendance).<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Munduate urged the Jigawa State Government to sustain those achievements by retaining healthcare workers, maintaining medical equipment, strengthening outreach services, and enhancing data management for informed decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>Responding, Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi reaffirmed his administration\u2019s commitment to sustaining all the success achieved through partnership.<\/p>\n<p>Represented by his Deputy, Engr.
