Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Former Military Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, IBB, has claimed he was afraid MKO Abiola\u2019s death would cause a civil war in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Abiola has been widely recognised as the winner of the 1993 presidential election, which was annulled by the IBB government.<\/p>\n

In his just launched book, \u2018A Journey in Service\u2019, the former military Head of State has revealed that he was worried about another civil war breaking out.<\/p>\n

IBB, however, said he was happy that Abiola was recognised as a former head of state by the Muhammadu Buhari regime.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I accept that the unfortunate denial of his mandate amounted to a subversion of the will of the Nigerian people, I was petrified that if Abiola got killed, it could lead to a civil war.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving participated in one civil war, with all its horrors, pains and devastation, I wasn\u2019t prepared to see another.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am gratified that the Buhari administration finally recognised MKO Abiola as a former head of state,\u201d IBB wrote.<\/p>\n
