Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Simon Ekpa-led United States of Biafra has warned the Nigerian government that tagging Biafra agitators as terrorists is a violation of human rights.<\/p>\n

Ngozi Orabueze, the Deputy Prime and Chief of Staff to the Ekpa-led USB, disclosed this in a statement on her X account on Sunday.<\/p>\n

She noted that the Nigerian government needs to recognize that Biafrans have the right to life, physical and mental integrity, liberty, and security of person, as well as the collective right of Indigenous Peoples to live in freedom, peace, and security.<\/p>\n

This comes as Orabueze warned against intimidation, harassment, and attacks against Biafrans, emphasizing their right to an identity bill.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States of Biafra reaffirms the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which addresses the individual and collective rights of Indigenous Peoples.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo recognize also that Biafrans have the right to life, physical and mental integrity, liberty, and security of person, and the collective right of Indigenous Peoples to live in freedom, peace, and security is non-negotiable.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples emphasizes the importance of meaningfully engaging Indigenous Peoples in peace agreement negotiations, transitional justice processes, conflict resolution, mediation, and constructive arrangements.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis follows the rise in intimidation, harassment, and reprisals against Biafran human rights defenders and Indigenous leaders.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States of Biafra cabinet hereby declares that the crime of being tagged a terrorist for being \u2018Biafran\u2019 by the Nigerian regime or any other government in the world is a violation of basic human rights. Biafrans are a free and indigenous people who have every right to their identity, freedom, and membership in the community of world nations on an equal footing,\u201d the statement claimed.<\/p>\n

Recall that in November 2024, Ekpa was detained by the Finnish government.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Emerging African States, OEAS, has called for the release of Ekpa.<\/p>\n
