{"id":152602,"date":"2025-02-24T18:34:28","date_gmt":"2025-02-24T17:34:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/ikpambweses-removal-as-chief-judge-stands-benue-govt"},"modified":"2025-02-27T00:02:16","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T23:02:16","slug":"ikpambweses-removal-as-chief-judge-stands-benue-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/ikpambweses-removal-as-chief-judge-stands-benue-govt","title":{"rendered":"Ikpambwese\u2019s removal as Chief Judge stands \u2013 Benue govt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Benue State Government has reiterated it\u2019s position on the removal of Justice Maurice Ikpambese as the Chief Judge of the state subsists.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement on Monday, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Tersoo Kula.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the Justice Ikpambwese to prepare to defend himself from the allegations levelled against him by the state government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe CJ is advised to defend the allegations against him at the National Judicial Commission and stop making unnecessary public statements to whip up sentiments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe advise the embattled Judge to prepare to defend himself at the NJC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He reaffirmed that the Benue State House of Assembly acted within the Nigerian 1999 constitution in their recommendation for the removal of the embattled Chief Judge, Justice Ikpambwese.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government is strong in the opinion that the lawmakers acted in the overall interest of the state and in line with Section 292(1)(a) (ii) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which provides that a chief judge may only be disposed of by the governor, acting on an address supported by two-thirds of the House of Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIkpambese\u2019s alleged sins and malfeasances have since been forwarded to NJC for adjudication and discipline as enshrined in section 153(1)(i) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
