Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State has matriculated 2,229 students amid ravaging security challenges in the Northwest, emphasizing the need for vigilance within the institution.<\/p>\n

The university\u2019s management has been grappling with banditry, as bandits have repeatedly attacked the institution, kidnapping students and staff.<\/p>\n

At the matriculation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Muazu Abubakar, explained that out of 5,066 applicants, only 2,229 were admitted.<\/p>\n

According to him, this is in line with the Federal Government\u2019s policy, adding that science-related courses had the highest enrollment, with 1,030 students.<\/p>\n

Abubakar urged the newly admitted students to remain vigilant and security-conscious in their daily activities.<\/p>\n

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized the need for vigilance as 2,229 students matriculated, advising them to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to security agents or university authorities.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to assure you that your security and privacy will be guaranteed,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Abubakar warned that the university would not tolerate any form of misconduct, stressing that infractions such as examination malpractice, cultism, sexual harassment, theft, and drug abuse would be met with strict penalties as outlined in the student handbook.<\/p>\n

He further reminded the students that only those formally matriculated are recognized as authentic students of the institution, underscoring the importance of upholding both academic and moral standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cDegrees are conferred only on graduates who are found worthy in both character and learning,\u201d he stated. \u201cBetween today\u2019s matriculation and your convocation, you will face various academic and personal challenges. Overcoming them will earn you the right to wear the academic gown again.\u201d<\/p>\n
