Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Northern governors and key stakeholders have renewed their commitment to addressing insecurity and poverty in the region, calling for urgent collective action to combat banditry, insurgency, and economic hardship.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the 11th Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture and Merit Awards in Bauchi, the Chairman of the Northern Governors\u2019 Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, emphasized the need for a coordinated regional response. He was joined by Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, in advocating for sustainable solutions to the North\u2019s pressing challenges.<\/p>\n

Governor Yahaya outlined the distinct security threats facing different parts of the region, stating that \u201cbanditry and kidnapping plague the Northwest, ethno-religious crises persist in the North-Central, while insurgency continues to destabilize the Northeast.\u201d He attributed these conflicts to competition over scarce resources and called for policies that align with a shared vision for regional development.<\/p>\n

Governor Bala Mohammed echoed this sentiment, underscoring the importance of unity in addressing insecurity and economic stagnation. \u201cWe must foster collaboration across all divides to confront our common adversaries,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

Delivering the keynote address, former Minister of Finance, Dr. Mansur Mukhtar, highlighted the region\u2019s untapped natural resources as a potential solution to its economic struggles. \u201cIf effectively harnessed, these resources can transform our economy,\u201d he said, stressing the need for modern technologies and sustainable agricultural practices to enhance productivity, ensure food security, and create employment opportunities.<\/p>\n

Governor Yahaya reiterated the Northern Governors\u2019 commitment to leveraging available resources for economic development, acknowledging that inadequate infrastructure, high unemployment, and widespread poverty remain major obstacles. \u201cWe must act collectively to tackle these challenges head-on,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n
