Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Bauchi State government has announced the closure of all schools across the state for five weeks in preparation for the 2025 Ramadan fast.<\/p>\n

The closure, which affects public and private primary, junior, and secondary schools, as well as higher institutions of learning, will take effect from March 1 to April 5, 2025.<\/p>\n

The decision was outlined in the state\u2019s approved 2024-2025 academic calendar.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, the Information Officer of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Jalaludeen Maina, explained that the holiday had been pre-planned and incorporated into the school calendar long before now.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, we are closing all our schools, and this is included in our 2024-2025 approved calendar for the academic session, so our students are not going to do the Ramadan fasting while in school,\u201d Maina stated.<\/p>\n

The five-week holiday is for Ramadan fasting, and immediately after the fasting, they will resume and continue with their academics,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

However, the decision has sparked concerns among parents, with some lamenting its potential impact on students\u2019 academic progress.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Sunita Joseph expressed frustration over the extended break, stating, \u201cWhy would the Ramadan break be this long? The children may have even started forgetting what they had learned before the break.\u201d<\/p>\n

Similarly, Ismail Raji urged the state government to reconsider the decision, warning that it could contribute to the growing issue of out-of-school children.<\/p>\n

Mohammed Isa, another concerned parent, reminded the government that Bauchi already has one of the highest numbers of out-of-school children in Nigeria.<\/p>\n
