Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A fire incident involving a petrol tanker and an articulated truck on Oko-Olowo-Jebba highway in Kwara State, on Friday morning claimed a man and a dog.<\/p>\n

The driver of the truck, identified as Wasiu, died in the incident.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred at Iyemaja Village along Oko-Olowo -Jebba highway at about 20:27hours.<\/p>\n

According to a statement by the spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, in Ilorin on Friday, \u201cthe petrol tanker was carrying 33,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), while the articulated truck driven by one Wasiu, was loaded with fertilizer.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said \u201cupon arrival, firefighters immediately took action to contain the fire and prevent further damage, adding that their swift intervention ensured that the fertilizer cargo was salvaged.<\/p>\n

\u201cPreliminary investigations indicated that the incident occurred when the articulated truck attempted to overtake the petrol tanker.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the process, it struck the rear of the tanker, causing a fuel spill that ignited fire, tragically, the driver of the articulated truck who was trapped, lost his life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Director of the Kwara State Fire Service Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged all road users to exercise patience, adhere to safety precautions, and prioritize road safety to prevent such devastating incidents.<\/p>\n
