Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Suspected bandits killed Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, a Catholic priest serving at St Mary\u2019s Catholic Church in Tachiri, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.<\/p>\n

According to sources within the church and local residents, Father Okechukwu was abducted from his residence late Tuesday night by armed assailants believed to be bandits operating in the region.<\/p>\n

The priest\u2019s lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of Wednesday, sending waves of grief and outrage through the local community and beyond.<\/p>\n

The attackers, according to the source, reportedly stormed his home under the cover of darkness, forcibly taking him before fleeing into the surrounding bushland.<\/p>\n

Despite efforts by community members to raise the alarm, the priest\u2019s fate remained uncertain until his body was found hours later.<\/p>\n

The discovery of Father Okechukwu\u2019s remains has intensified concerns over the escalating insecurity in Southern Kaduna, where banditry, kidnappings, and targeted killings have plagued rural communities for years.<\/p>\n

Preliminary reports suggest the priest may have been killed shortly after his abduction, though authorities have yet to confirm the precise cause of death or the motive behind the attack.<\/p>\n

A parishioner, speaking on condition of anonymity, described Father Okechukwu as a compassionate and dedicated servant of God, saying, \u201cHe was a father to us all, always there to pray with us and guide us through hard times. Who could do this to such a peaceful man?\u201d<\/p>\n

The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, under which St. Mary\u2019s Church falls, has not yet released an official statement, but sources indicate that church leaders are working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.<\/p>\n

The Kaduna State Police Command has deployed officers to the area, though no arrests have been reported at the time of writing.<\/p>\n
