{"id":154612,"date":"2025-03-10T09:16:14","date_gmt":"2025-03-10T08:16:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/sahel-nations-to-adopt-borno-model-for-tackling-insecurity"},"modified":"2025-03-25T18:41:29","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T17:41:29","slug":"sahel-nations-to-adopt-borno-model-for-tackling-insecurity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/sahel-nations-to-adopt-borno-model-for-tackling-insecurity","title":{"rendered":"Sahel nations to adopt Borno model for tackling insecurity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Alliance of Sahel Institute for Security Studies (ASISS), in collaboration with Norway, is set to adopt the Borno Model as a blueprint for addressing insecurity and reintegrating repentant insurgents in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative, which takes a community-driven approach, has gained international recognition for its effectiveness in combating terrorism and restoring stability in conflict-affected areas.<\/p>\n<p>At a high-level meeting in Maiduguri over the weekend, ASISS leaders and security experts explored strategies for implementing the model across the Sahel region, which has long been plagued by terrorism and armed conflicts.<\/p>\n<p>The delegation was led by Aliyu Gebi, Special Adviser to Nigeria\u2019s Chief of Defence Staff, and included security experts and policymakers from the three Sahel countries. Key attendees were Brig-Gen. Yusuf Ali, Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor, General Aime\u0301 Simpore\u0301 from Burkina Faso, Mahamadu Togota from Mali, and Moureima Adamou Noma representing Niger Republic.<\/p>\n<p>They also engaged with representatives from the Norwegian Institute for Conflict Resolution to chart a framework for security and reintegration strategies in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State described the model as \u201cone of the most successful security and reintegration strategies in the world.\u201d He highlighted its significant impact, noting that about 300,000 insurgents and their families have surrendered under the programme.<\/p>\n<p>The governor also emphasized efforts to rebuild trust among communities by executing key infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have constructed mega schools and markets and provided livelihood support to victims of the 15-year insurgency,\u201d Zulum stated.<\/p>\n<p>The Borno Model, which focuses on de-radicalization, rehabilitation, and community-based reintegration, has been credited with helping to curb insurgency in Nigeria\u2019s northeast.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
