Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Ondo State Police Command says reports making the rounds that it confirmed the killing of 20 farmers in an attack in the State was untrue.<\/p>\n

There were reports on Monday suggesting that armed men suspected to be herdsmen killed over 20 farmers across four communities in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.<\/p>\n

Reports in some quarters also suggested that the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya confirmed the killing of 20 persons in the four communities.<\/p>\n

But contrary to the reports, the command said it is only aware of attack on Sunday Camp with no specific number of casualties.<\/p>\n

In a statement posted on its official X handle, the Ondo Command said the report is misleading, urging journalists to confirm reports before publishing to avoid unnecessary panic.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the record, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Ala received information regarding an attack at Sunday Camp, a settlement along the boundary of Ondo and Edo States, on March 8, 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, the Police command never confirmed the killing of 20 farmers, as falsely reported\u201d, the statement added.<\/p>\n

It further stressed that the commissioner of Police Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi has already ordered an intensified covert operation to flush out criminal elements from the affected community and other parts of the state.<\/p>\n
