{"id":155045,"date":"2025-03-12T11:35:37","date_gmt":"2025-03-12T10:35:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/meningitis-gov-nasir-idris-approves-n30m-to-curb-disease-outbreak-in-kebbi"},"modified":"2025-03-25T19:42:45","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T18:42:45","slug":"meningitis-gov-nasir-idris-approves-n30m-to-curb-disease-outbreak-in-kebbi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/meningitis-gov-nasir-idris-approves-n30m-to-curb-disease-outbreak-in-kebbi","title":{"rendered":"Meningitis: Gov Nasir Idris approves N30m to curb disease outbreak in Kebbi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has approved the release of N30 million to combat a suspected outbreak of cerebrospinal meningitis in four Local Government Areas of the state.<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner for Health, Musa Isma\u2019ila, revealed this while speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He confirmed the allocation of funds, emphasizing the government\u2019s commitment to containing the disease.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved N30 million to procure drugs and other essential consumables for responsive activity aimed at cushioning the effect of the outbreak,\u201d Isma\u2019ila stated.<\/p>\n<p>The affected Local Government Areas include Gwandu, Jega, Aliero, and Argungu, where at least 26 deaths have been recorded.<\/p>\n<p>According to the commissioner, the disease has not been officially confirmed as cerebrospinal meningitis, but symptoms observed among patients raise serious concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn week seven, we were saddled with the unfortunate situation of an outbreak with a rising number of cases beyond usual, characterized by symptoms such as fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, stomach aches, vomiting, diarrhea, and sensitivity to light,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 248 suspected cases have been recorded so far, with 11 samples sent to the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja for confirmation.
