{"id":155227,"date":"2025-03-14T12:33:17","date_gmt":"2025-03-14T11:33:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/court-jails-trader-for-defrauding-customer"},"modified":"2025-03-25T21:03:36","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T20:03:36","slug":"court-jails-trader-for-defrauding-customer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/court-jails-trader-for-defrauding-customer","title":{"rendered":"Court jails trader for defrauding customer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A Magistrates\u2019 Court in Jos has sentenced a 32-year-old trader, Chijioke Chinedu, to one year in prison for defrauding a man of four car tyres.<\/p>\n<p>The court, presided over by Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos, handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty to the charge.<\/p>\n<p>Bokkos, in her ruling, offered Chinedu the option to pay a N20,000 fine to reduce his sentence to six months.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, he was ordered to compensate the victim with N108,000 or face an extra six months behind bars if he failed to pay.<\/p>\n<p>According to the prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, the case was reported on February 20 at the \u2018A\u2019 Division Police Station by the complainant, Oladimeji Kashim.<\/p>\n<p>Gokwat stated that Chinedu was given N109,000 to purchase four car tyres but instead absconded and used the money for personal expenses.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecution argued that the trader\u2019s actions violated the Plateau Penal Code Law.
