Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>In a major blow to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), several of its fighters have surrendered to security forces in Borno State following devastating airstrikes by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in collaboration with Nigerien forces.<\/p>\n

Intelligence sources revealed on Wednesday that the precision strikes were carried out on March 17 in Chettimari, a border town in Niger Republic near Damasak, Borno State. The offensive was launched after ISWAP fighters attacked Nigerien troops, killing at least four soldiers and injuring seven others.<\/p>\n

Responding to a distress call, the Nigerian Air Force swiftly deployed two Super Tucano fighter jets, backed by intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) assets from Niger Republic. The coordinated air assault inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists, halting their operations.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a result of the airstrikes, several ISWAP fighters surrendered in Borno State with their weapons and horses,\u201d a source confirmed.<\/p>\n

The surrendered terrorists were identified as key actors behind multiple attacks in Damasak, Geidam, Mallam Fatori, and Diffa in Niger Republic. Their surrender marks a significant victory in the ongoing battle against terrorism in the Lake Chad region.<\/p>\n
