{"id":155814,"date":"2025-03-19T23:19:24","date_gmt":"2025-03-19T22:19:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/alleged-n70bn-fraud-efcc-arrests-bauchi-accountant-general"},"modified":"2025-04-03T18:10:13","modified_gmt":"2025-04-03T17:10:13","slug":"alleged-n70bn-fraud-efcc-arrests-bauchi-accountant-general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/alleged-n70bn-fraud-efcc-arrests-bauchi-accountant-general","title":{"rendered":"Alleged N70bn fraud: EFCC arrests Bauchi Accountant-General"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested the Accountant General of Bauchi State, Sirajo Jaja, over alleged fraud involving N70 billion.<\/p>\n<p>This was contained in a statement by EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Oyewale said Jaja was arrested in Abuja on Wednesday alongside Aliyu Abubakar, an alleged unlicensed bureau de change, BDC operator from Jasfad Resources Enterprise, and Sunusi Ibrahim Sambo, a Point of Sale, PoS operator.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that the arrests are connected to an ongoing investigation into alleged money laundering, diversion of public funds, and misappropriation of state resources.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the anti-graft agency is also investigating Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed in connection with the matter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe investigation has revealed that cash withdrawals amounting to N59 billion were made through various bank accounts operated by the Accountant General on behalf of the state government.
