Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Edo State Government has announced the termination of 10 road contracts.<\/p>\n

Paul Ohonbamu, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, disclosed this to newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Benin City.<\/p>\n

Ohonbamu said the contracts were terminated to guarantee uniformity of standard, avoid overlapping and to appropriately rescope with the aim of speedy completion.<\/p>\n

He said that the affected contracts would be assessed to know the extent of work done by the contractors for the purpose of making payments as deserving.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is to defray what they have done and any other payment accruable. The government is not terminating them with punishment. But the quantum of work will be analysed and what they deserve will be paid.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis no doubt shows that the governor does not have any oppressive tendency but follows the rules to agree to pay those who are performing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the government also agreed to pay ten contractors from the previous administration that are working in the state to the extent they have performed to ensure that there are no delays in the execution of projects.<\/p>\n

Some of the other contracts ratified by the state government are the award of reconstruction of roads in Ovia North East, Esan North East and Oredo Local Government Areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe State Executive Council also approved the renovation of some dilapidated public schools across the state in line with the state government\u2019s drive in ensuring a better learning environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn four months, the governor has been able to put in place a solid foundation to build upon sustainable infrastructure and human capital development of the people of Edo State,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Ohonbamu noted that the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led government met school infrastructures in deplorable situations and has therefore taken steps to provide a conducive environment for learning for students.<\/p>\n
