{"id":15606,"date":"2019-09-18T15:03:25","date_gmt":"2019-09-18T15:03:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.com\/nigeria\/?p=15606"},"modified":"2019-09-18T15:03:25","modified_gmt":"2019-09-18T15:03:25","slug":"ngige-explains-why-ipob-cannot-achieve-biafra-how-igbo-can-get-presidency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/ngige-explains-why-ipob-cannot-achieve-biafra-how-igbo-can-get-presidency","title":{"rendered":"Ngige explains why IPOB cannot achieve Biafra, how Igbo can get presidency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, on Tuesday, boasted that members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) could not attack him outside Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>Ngige made the statement while speaking in Obosi, Anambra State.<\/p>\n<p>He was reacting to the threat by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ripplesnigeria.com\/tag\/IPOB\/\">IPOB members<\/a>\u00a0who had allegedly threatened to attack South-East politicians whenever they were spotted outside the country.<\/p>\n<p>He said the secessionists would not do him any harm, because he protected them and their interests when he was Anambra State governor.<\/p>\n<p>Ngige said, \u201cIPOB was registered by the late President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr Dozie Ikedife and other Igbo as a non-violent group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is going on now in the group is not part of the work plan. I visited the United States of America recently, and I was welcomed by IPOB members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey knew I fed and protected them when I was in office as governor. I have said it several times that Biafra cannot be achieved the IPOB way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Igbo should stop shouting marginalisation. They should stand up and assert themselves to be counted. Nigeria belongs to all of us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEquity favours the Igbo to produce the next president of the country, but they must work hard and position themselves for it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe should stop political sentiments. Politicians don\u2019t give power based on sentiment and emotion. President Muhammadu Buhari has said he is favourable to an Igbo president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must support him and associate with the APC.
