{"id":156095,"date":"2025-03-21T23:08:26","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T22:08:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/nnamdi-kanus-wife-endorses-husbands-apology-to-judiciary-judge-others"},"modified":"2025-04-04T12:04:34","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T11:04:34","slug":"nnamdi-kanus-wife-endorses-husbands-apology-to-judiciary-judge-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/nnamdi-kanus-wife-endorses-husbands-apology-to-judiciary-judge-others","title":{"rendered":"Nnamdi Kanu\u2019s wife endorses husband\u2019s apology to judiciary, judge, others"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Lolo Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, wife of the detained Biafra nation agitator Nnamdi Kanu, has endorsed the apology offered by her husband to the judiciary, Justice Binta Nyako, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, and others over his expressions of anger during last year\u2019s trial proceedings on terrorism charges.<\/p>\n<p>The apology was tendered on Kanu\u2019s behalf on Friday by his new lead counsel and former Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement issued on Friday evening, Lolo Uchechi Okwu-Kanu clarified that Chief Agabi acted to smooth over tensions within certain segments of the bar and bench, following Kanu\u2019s legitimate but anger-fuelled outbursts against Justice Binta Nyako\u2019s court, which led to her recusal.<\/p>\n<p>The statement, titled \u201cDignity in Justice Omotosho\u2019s Court of the Federal High Court in Abuja,\u201d was personally signed by Kanu\u2019s wife.<\/p>\n<p>It read in part: \u201cIn court today, my husband, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, accepted the need for Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, the new lead counsel, to address the court of Justice James Omotosho on what transpired in Justice Binta Nyako\u2019s court, which shook the foundations of the Nigerian judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis clarification was duly delivered by Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN\u2014a towering figure, twice Attorney-General, twice Minister of Justice, and a former Senator.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChief Agabi, stepping into Onyendu\u2019s brief, acted to smooth over tensions within certain segments of the bar and bench, caused by his legitimate but anger-fuelled outbursts against Justice Binta Nyako\u2019s court, which led to her recusal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChief Kanu Agabi\u2019s stature demanded it; he could not represent Onyendu without restoring decorum acceptable to the Abuja bench in particular and the judiciary in general.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRemarkably, Justice James Omotosho, presiding, also apologised to Onyendu for the prolonged delay and mishandling of his trial over the years, acknowledging his ordeal at the hands of the Federal High Court, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cChief Agabi\u2019s move was strategic, balancing Onyendu\u2019s fury with the court\u2019s dignity.
