{"id":156342,"date":"2025-03-24T22:45:27","date_gmt":"2025-03-24T21:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/tinubu-flags-off-construction-of-access-road-to-second-niger-bridge"},"modified":"2025-04-04T12:56:58","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T11:56:58","slug":"tinubu-flags-off-construction-of-access-road-to-second-niger-bridge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/tinubu-flags-off-construction-of-access-road-to-second-niger-bridge","title":{"rendered":"Tinubu flags off construction of access road to Second Niger Bridge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>President Bola Tinubu has officially flagged off the construction of the access road to the Second Niger Bridge, linking Delta and Anambra states.<\/p>\n<p>The 17.55-kilometre road, awarded to CCECC Nigeria Limited, passes through several communities in Delta State, including Issele-Azagba, Okpanam, Ibusa, Asaba, Okwe, and Oko-Amakun, before connecting to the Second Niger Bridge into Anambra State.<\/p>\n<p>The groundbreaking ceremony took place on Monday in Oko, Oshimili South Local Government Area, with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori representing the president at the event.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori, on behalf of President Tinubu, described the project as a key component of his administration\u2019s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving road infrastructure, boosting economic activities, and enhancing connectivity in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday marks another milestone in the Renewed Hope Agenda of this administration. The construction of the access road to the Second Niger Bridge is a testament to our commitment to providing critical road infrastructure,\u201d Tinubu stated.<\/p>\n<p>He recalled that the opening of the Second Niger Bridge in December 2022 was a breakthrough for road transportation between the South-East and the rest of Nigeria. However, he noted that the absence of proper access roads had posed significant challenges for road users\u2014an issue the new project, handled by CCECC Nigeria Limited, aims to resolve.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe access road we are flagging off today is a direct response to the challenges faced by road users. It is expected to improve connectivity, enhance road safety, and boost trade and economic performance, which the South-East region is known for,\u201d the president added.<\/p>\n<p>He assured that the project would be executed with urgency, stating that by the end of the year and into the next, the road structure would be made accessible to the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project has been made possible through the government\u2019s commitment to building strong communities, improving infrastructure, and ensuring better road networks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will create opportunities, boost tourism, facilitate the free movement of goods and services from production centres to sales outlets, and improve the overall quality of life,\u201d Tinubu stated.<\/p>\n<p>He further appealed to motorists and residents to exercise patience and cooperate with contractors as the project progresses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI urge motorists to remain patient and cooperative during the construction process,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n<p>He acknowledged that there would be inconveniences during the construction period but urged citizens to support the development efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be some disruptions to movement during this period, but I trust that the people here will cooperate with the contractor. As progressives, we must embrace development across the nation,\u201d Tinubu said.<\/p>\n<p>The president reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to ensuring the project is completed on schedule and to global standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am confident in the contractor\u2019s ability to complete the project on time and to deliver quality work in line with international standards,\u201d he affirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, identified compensation payments as a major challenge to project construction in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA policy was passed by the Federal Executive Council, requiring state governors to assist with compensation payments. This will be a key factor in determining the project\u2019s timeline,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that while the government had directed CCECC Nigeria Limited to begin work in areas without compensation disputes, the Federal Ministry of Works would collaborate with the state government to resolve outstanding compensation issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough enumeration is ongoing, it must be submitted to the governor for evaluation. Federal and state compensation processes are different,\u201d Umahi added.<\/p>\n<p>The minister also confirmed that funding for the project had been secured, revealing that 30 per cent of the contract sum had already been processed administratively, though the contractor had yet to receive the funds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur new policy requires contractors to begin work immediately upon being awarded a project.
