Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, has called on religious bodies to speak with one voice against the violation of religious rights in any part in the country.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cViolation of religious rights is happening to Christians and it is also happening to others. So if we really want to fight against it, we should collectively fight against it for the interest of all followers.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cNobody of whatever religion should be denied his or her right. All should be respected and be given their rights so that everybody will be free to freely move to any part of the country and legislatively undertake business activities for their survival and for the progress of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking in Kaduna on Monday when Christian journalists paid him a congratulatory visit on his recent election as the chairman, Northern CAN, Hayab opined, \u201cReligious bodies should fight against the violation of the rights of others.\u201d<\/p>\n

He lamented that people are violating the rights of other people\u2019s religions, thereby putting Nigeria into the list of countries of concern.<\/p>\n

According to him, religious bodies should collectively call on the government that whoever disrespects anybody because of religious differences should be prosecuted and once the government start doing that, then everybody will know that those being punished have violated the law of the land.\u201d<\/p>\n

The chairman believes that once that is done, the country would be the kind of place citizens want it to be where all will be treated equally based on the laws of the land.<\/p>\n

Hayab thanked the Christian journalists for identifying with the new leadership of CAN, assuring them that the leadership will ensure the voices of Christians are heard and protected, also expressing gratitude that the christian youths, women, chairmen and the entire Church have identified and are fully in support of the new leadership.<\/p>\n

According to Hayab, the election of the new leadership of Northern CAN came with some challenges but expressed delight that the constituency of Northern CAN that was supposed to do the election has spoken with one voice in support of the elected leaders.<\/p>\n

Hayab assured that his door is opened to hear views of people with a view to working together towards achieving the objectives of understanding one another and live in harmony for the overall development of Northern Nigeria and the nation as a whole.<\/p>\n
