Chidi Leo, said the defendant committed the offenses on March 20 at the Barnawa area of Kaduna at 3:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Leo told the court that the defendant stole N80,000 and two ATM cards from the handbag of Mrs. Rose Adams, who had come to get her hair done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant, after sending her apprentice on an errand, stole the money and ATM cards from the customer\u2019s purse in the salon when the latter stepped out to make a call,\u201d the prosecutor said.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, another customer, who walked in precisely at that time, caught the defendant removing the stolen items from the bag.<\/p>\n<p>He said the offenses contravened Sections 244 and 271 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSection 271 attracts a prison term that may extend to five years or a fine equivalent to twice the value of the stolen item, or both if found guilty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrate, Mr. Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel said the surety must be a blood relative of the defendant and must possess landed property in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the surety must provide evidence of tax payment for the two previous years to the Kaduna State Government.<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel subsequently adjourned the case until May 6 for hearing.
