Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The United Kingdom, UK, Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, on Thursday said it\u2019s time for President Vladimir Putin of Russia to show he\u2019s \u201cwilling to play ball.\u201d<\/p>\n

Starmer said the UK is stepping up modalities to defend Ukraine\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

Posting on X, Starmer wrote: \u201cWe are stepping up to play our part to defend Ukraine\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow Putin needs to show he\u2019s willing to play ball.\u201d<\/p>\n

This comes as Starmer accused Putin of making \u201chollow promises\u201d on a ceasefire in Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The prime minister is co-hosting a summit of allies in Paris to present plans, devised by senior military chiefs, that seek to deter future Russian aggression against Ukraine, including potentially posting troops there.<\/p>\n

The so-called \u201ccoalition of the willing\u201d meeting comes hours after its other co-host, French President Emmanuel Macron, suggested a European reassurance force could \u201crespond\u201d if attacked by Moscow.<\/p>\n

It follows separate talks between the US, Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia earlier this week, which led to a ceasefire in the Black Sea being agreed.<\/p>\n

Starmer will tell the coalition that \u201cexcellent progress\u201d was made during the military chiefs\u2019 meeting in London last week, and that Europe is \u201cmobilising together in pursuit of peace, but now we must keep up the momentum\u201d, according to No 10.<\/p>\n

But he will also accuse Putin of \u201cplaying games\u201d with the agreement for a naval ceasefire, which would allow the reopening of trade routes in the Black Sea.<\/p>\n

Starmer had said: \u201cUnlike [Ukraine\u2019s] President [Volodymyr] Zelensky, Putin has shown he\u2019s not a serious player in these peace talks.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Putin is] playing games with the agreed naval ceasefire in the Black Sea, despite good faith participation from all sides \u2013 all while continuing to inflict devastating attacks on the Ukrainian people. His promises are hollow.\u201d<\/p>\n
