{"id":157245,"date":"2025-03-30T22:22:50","date_gmt":"2025-03-30T21:22:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/delta-cp-orders-investigation-into-death-of-upcoming-artist-paul-obukohwo"},"modified":"2025-04-04T14:57:40","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T13:57:40","slug":"delta-cp-orders-investigation-into-death-of-upcoming-artist-paul-obukohwo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/delta-cp-orders-investigation-into-death-of-upcoming-artist-paul-obukohwo","title":{"rendered":"Delta CP orders investigation into death of upcoming artist, Paul Obukohwo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda has ordered a thorough investigation into the death of a 24 year old upcoming artist, Paul Obukohwo.<\/p>\n<p>The directive was disclosed in a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Command therefore calls on members of his family to come to the headquarters for commencement of the investigation,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>It would be recalled that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, allegedly tortured the artist, who is a suspect in a case, to death.<\/p>\n<p>CP Abaniwonda while condoling with the family of the deceased, assured them that if the operatives are found culpable, they will be made to face the full wrath of the law.<\/p>\n<p>Narrating what happened, the statement said, \u201cOn the 26th of March 2025, at about 1545 hours, operatives of the command\u2019s Rapid Response Squad raided a black spot along Okpanam Road and arrested one Prosper Odili \u2018m\u2019 aged 24 years, with military camouflage while others took to their heels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe deceased, Paul Obukohwo, who obstructed the police from arresting his brother and damaged the patrol vehicle in the process, was later arrested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Paul Obukohwo was in custody, he fell sick and was taken to Police Hospital Asaba where he was diagnosed with hypoglycaemia (low sugar).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to the severity of his condition, he was referred to Asaba Specialist Hospital and later referred to Federal Medical Centre Asaba, where he died while receiving treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement added, \u201cThe command is not oblivious to the fact that there are complaints emanating from social media and the brother of the deceased alleging that the police tortured him while he was in custody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>For More News And Analysis About <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Nigeria<\/span> Follow <span style=\"color: #ff6600\">Africa-Press<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria.
