{"id":159261,"date":"2025-04-14T09:38:10","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T08:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/state-of-emergency-shinkafi-kicks-against-calls-for-zamfara-gov-lawals-removal"},"modified":"2025-04-15T13:26:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-15T12:26:08","slug":"state-of-emergency-shinkafi-kicks-against-calls-for-zamfara-gov-lawals-removal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/policy\/state-of-emergency-shinkafi-kicks-against-calls-for-zamfara-gov-lawals-removal","title":{"rendered":"State of emergency: Shinkafi kicks against calls for Zamfara Gov, Lawal\u2019s removal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>A former governorship aspirant in Zamfara State and Social Development &amp; Patron of the Bola Tinubu\/Kashim Shettima Presidential Campaign Council 2023, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has kicked against the call for a state of emergency in Zamfara State.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement signed on behalf of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, Shinkafi said such calls are only sponsored by desperate politicians who lost elections and want to seize power unconstitutionally to loot the treasury and impoverish the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are aware of their antics as expired politicians and urge President Bola Tinubu and all lovers of democracy to ignore them as they wallow in their delusions of grandeur,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agenda of these agents provocateurs is to distract Governor Dauda Lawal and destabilize the state as it was before he assumed office on May 29, 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBlinded by parochial interests, these reactionary forces demonstrate ignorance of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, regarding the strict conditions on the removal of a duly elected governor and state legislators, vis-a\u0300-vis the president\u2019s power to declare a state of emergency in any part of the country. The appointment of a sole administrator is an aberration and undemocratic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCertainly, Zamfara State does not fall under any of the clear provisions of the nation\u2019s Constitution for removing the governor or declaring a state of emergency there. It is imprudent to overheat the polity and cause political upheaval.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria is governed by the rule of law, not might. There is no place for dictatorship, autocracy, and despotism in constitutional democracy. President Tinubu is a democrat and swore to uphold the Constitution, and will certainly not yield to political jobbers clamoring for a state of emergency in any state where the people had rejected them in the polls.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development urges politicians in Zamfara State to play by the rules, uphold democratic values, ideals, and ethics, and eschew the politics of bitterness, which impedes the gains of our hard-earned democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, along with our gallant soldiers, other security services, and supported by Governor Dauda Lawal, have fought armed banditry in the state head-on, which has significantly improved security, public safety, and order in Zamfara State.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe improved security paved the way for vigorous economic activities, social services, and infrastructural development, all combined to provide crucial dividends of democracy to citizens, including the payment of the \u20a670,000 national minimum wage to civil servants and the promise to address the grey areas in the implementation of the national minimum wage for senior civil servants.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the intention of the groups and their sponsors is to distract Governor Lawal, they have failed woefully, as he is a man of indefatigable endeavor with exceptional political sagacity, leadership acumen, and tenacity of purpose to provide fruits of democracy to citizens and alleviate their suffering, as laid out in his Rescue Mission.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not yet time for partisan politics for the 2027 general election. Everybody should calm down and contribute to building a better Zamfara State.
