Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday launched its maiden military diplomacy and sensitisation campaign in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, urging citizens to promote peace, security, and patriotism.<\/p>\n

The campaign, spearheaded by the Directorate of Defence Media Operations, was held at Shagari Primary School and aimed at deepening civil-military relations through dialogue and mutual trust.<\/p>\n

Commander Godwin Egbunu, who led the DHQ delegation, said the initiative was inspired by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, as part of efforts to encourage continued collaboration between the military and host communities across Nigeria.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are here to appreciate your support and encourage you to share credible intelligence with us. Our message is also to discourage involvement in criminal activities, cultism, and kidnapping. The military is your friend\u2014not an enemy,\u201d Egbunu said.<\/p>\n

He emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence, urging residents to report grievances to nearby military formations to prevent communal clashes. He also advised parents to monitor their children\u2019s behaviour and warned against the spread of fake news via social media, which he said undermines national peace.<\/p>\n

Egbunu highlighted the military\u2019s non-combat roles, including medical outreach, education support, and provision of boreholes, stressing the importance of community trust and engagement.<\/p>\n

Also speaking, the Commander of 23 Brigade Yola, Brig.-Gen. Paul Zawaya\u2014represented by the Brigade\u2019s Intelligence Officer, Lt.-Col. Felix Ayeni\u2014praised the support of residents and local authorities, noting it had contributed significantly to the successes of Operation Farauta in the state.<\/p>\n

Yola South LGA Chairman, Salihu Malkohi, represented by Director of Media and Public Affairs, Aliyu Isah, expressed gratitude to the DHQ for choosing the community for the campaign. He reaffirmed the council\u2019s commitment to cooperating with security forces and even offered more land for the establishment of additional military barracks.<\/p>\n

Community leaders who attended the event commended the initiative, saying it helped humanise the military in the eyes of the public and encouraged future engagements.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has changed how many of us see the military,\u201d said civil servant Darius Susarumso. \u201cThey need to take this kind of outreach to other parts of the country, especially conflict zones.\u201d<\/p>\n

The campaign marks a new phase in the military\u2019s strategy to engage with civilians as stakeholders in the pursuit of lasting peace and security nationwide.<\/p>\n
