Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have dismantled a suspected bandit camp and arrested a fake military officer in a series of coordinated operations under Operation LAFIYAN JAMAA.<\/p>\n

The developments were contained in a post on Friday by renowned security analyst Zagazola Makama on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he detailed the string of operations carried out across Lau, Jalingo, and Donga local government areas of the state.<\/p>\n

On April 16, responding to a distress call from a local hunter, troops raided a suspected bandit camp at Dutsen Kachalla in Lainde, Lau LGA.<\/p>\n

Although the suspects fled upon arrival of the soldiers, the troops recovered key items including an AK-47 magazine, a rifle butt, military headgear, and a National ID card belonging to one Adamu Umaru Jauro.<\/p>\n

Three days later, on April 19, troops acting on credible intelligence arrested one Yusuf Hammadu, alias \u201cDogo,\u201d at Lainde Jessy in the same Lau LGA. Hammadu, who had been on the security agencies\u2019 watchlist, is believed to be a member of a criminal syndicate responsible for a spate of kidnappings in Jalingo, Ardo-Kola, Lau, and Yorro LGAs.<\/p>\n

In a separate operation on April 22, troops arrested a fake military officer, Richard Ongu, who had been impersonating a Major in the Nigerian Army. Investigations revealed that Ongu was a discharged Flight Sergeant from the Nigerian Air Force since 2019.<\/p>\n

He reportedly defrauded individuals by posing as a military officer, collected \u20a61.6 million as part payment for 350 bags of Beniseed, and attempted to illegally procure firearms.<\/p>\n

He also allegedly extorted money from residents of Bali and Gassol LGAs under the pretext of facilitating recruitment into the Nigerian Army.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe clampdown continued on April 24 when troops, in collaboration with Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) operatives, raided Jatau-Nyimu village in Donga LGA.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe operation led to the recovery of 86 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, a Tarvor magazine, four cartridges, a Beofeng handheld radio, three single-barrel guns, and two military camouflage uniforms,\u201d Makama post read.<\/p>\n

Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier-General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army\u2019s commitment to restoring peace and security across Taraba State.<\/p>\n

General Uwa also cautioned the public against engaging with imposters or paying for recruitment into the military, reiterating that enlistment into the Nigerian Army is entirely free and based on merit.<\/p>\n
