{"id":160433,"date":"2025-04-25T22:47:54","date_gmt":"2025-04-25T21:47:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/police-arrest-9-suspects-for-illegal-possession-of-firearms-in-sokoto"},"modified":"2025-04-28T18:44:09","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T17:44:09","slug":"police-arrest-9-suspects-for-illegal-possession-of-firearms-in-sokoto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/police-arrest-9-suspects-for-illegal-possession-of-firearms-in-sokoto","title":{"rendered":"Police arrest 9 suspects for illegal possession of firearms in Sokoto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>Several suspects involved in the illegal possession of firearms and activities believed to be linked to terrorism have been apprehended by the Sokoto State Police Command.<\/p>\n<p>The breakthrough forms part of the intensified operations led by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, to curb crime and protect public safety across the state.<\/p>\n<p>A statement released on Friday by the spokesman of the command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, revealed that detectives from the State Intelligence Department arrested one Bello Ibrahim, popularly known as \u201cBello Currency,\u201d along with four others.<\/p>\n<p>Those arrested alongside Bello Ibrahim are Alhaji Muhammad Danlato, Alhaji Abun Buhari, Alhaji Faruku Alhaji, and Abubakar Furniture, on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and suspected terror-related activities.<\/p>\n<p>The statement explained that, according to investigations, Bello Ibrahim allegedly sold fabricated revolvers to the other four suspects under the pretext of self-defence, stressing that the weapons were unregistered and no valid firearm licences were obtained, thereby contravening the Firearms Act and involving AK-47 ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>Rufai stated that the suspects were arrested during a coordinated operation in Tambuwal Local Government Area, saying, \u201crecovered items include multiple illegal firearms, four rounds of LAR ammunition, and one round of AK-47 ammunition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, the statement noted that on 23 April 2025, officers attached to Tureta Police Station intercepted one Yau Lawali of Yabawa Village, Bakura LGA in Zamfara State, during a stop-and-search operation.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the statement added that on 19 April 2025, police officers on duty at Kebbe Police Station arrested three individuals\u2014Danagaji Bala, Sani Muhammad, and Danjuma, all of Dogon Marke Village\u2014who were allegedly found in possession of a locally made revolver and 19 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.<\/p>\n<p>It stated that all suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>The command affirmed that investigations are ongoing to uncover any broader criminal network or connections to terrorist operations.
