{"id":160794,"date":"2025-04-28T22:50:39","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T21:50:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/uncategorized\/lagos-signs-mou-with-international-consortium-to-revamp-water-infrastructure"},"modified":"2025-04-28T23:51:38","modified_gmt":"2025-04-28T22:51:38","slug":"lagos-signs-mou-with-international-consortium-to-revamp-water-infrastructure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/nigeria\/all-news\/lagos-signs-mou-with-international-consortium-to-revamp-water-infrastructure","title":{"rendered":"Lagos signs MoU with international consortium to revamp water infrastructure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Lagos State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with an international consortium comprising Belstar Capital and ENKA to rehabilitate and expand the state\u2019s water supply infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, announced the development in a statement on Monday, stating that the initiative aims to address Lagos State\u2019s pressing water infrastructure challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis project entails construction, rehabilitation, and installation of water treatment facilities as well as distribution networks to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply to underserved communities,\u201d Wahab said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the initiative would also see the establishment of new waterworks to ease distribution bottlenecks.<\/p>\n<p>He assured that the project would comply with all relevant regulations, including social and safety standards, to ensure responsible and sustainable execution.<\/p>\n<p>According to Wahab, the initiative is structured into two categories: the \u201cBrown Field\u201d phase, which involves the rehabilitation of existing waterworks, and the \u201cGreen Field\u201d phase, which covers the construction of brand-new waterworks in various locations across Lagos.<\/p>\n<p>The Managing Director of Lagos Water Corporation, LWC, Mukhtaar Tijani, stated that the corporation would work closely with the consortium, providing development support, technical expertise, and stakeholder engagement to ensure the project\u2019s success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe projects will not only deliver potable water to communities currently without access but will also contribute significantly to the eradication of water-related diseases in Lagos,\u201d Tijani said.<\/p>\n<p>Tewodros Polk, Group Managing Director of Belstar Capital, reaffirmed the consortium\u2019s commitment to the initiative.
