Africa-Press – Nigeria. <\/strong><\/span>The Deputy senate president, Senator Barau Jibrin has officially received a group of elders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, as they defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/p>\n

The announcement was made by Senator Barau on his verified Facebook page.<\/p>\n

\u201cI received a group of elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who belong to the camp of the former governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, into our great party \u2014 the All Progressives Congress (APC),\u201d Senator Barau stated, signaling a pivotal shift in the local political landscape.<\/p>\n

The defectors, led by Hon. Lawan Abubakar Tsanyawa, included prominent figures such as members of the Shura Council, Hisbah commanders, former legislators, and former local government chairmen. They formally announced their defection during a visit to Senator Barau\u2019s residence in Abuja. The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata also joined in receiving the group.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Senator Barau highlighted the role of the APC in shaping the decision of the defectors, noting their acknowledgment of the party\u2019s contributions to the development of infrastructure, empowerment, and employment across the region. \u201cEven as PDP members, they said they had benefitted enormously from our interventions in infrastructure, empowerment, employment, and other areas. This motivated their decision to return to the APC,\u201d Barau explained.<\/p>\n

Senator Barau also reassured the new members of their full integration into the party.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are not strangers to the APC. They were once members before following their leader to the PDP. Now that we are reunited, they will be treated fairly and equally,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

In a related development, Senator Barau received another delegation from the New Nigeria People\u2019s Party (NNPP) in Bichi Local Government Area, led by former council chairman, Alhaji Saleh Rabiu Yusuf (DanGwarzo).<\/p>\n

The NNPP members cited the positive impact of APC-led projects and the sincerity of the party\u2019s leadership as key factors behind their decision to join the ruling party.<\/p>\n
